Mia Upshaw made her first film at 14. It was a short horror film made with and starring her high school friends that no one will ever see.
This unseen film sparked her passion for producing and directing films. This new passion led to her earning her BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in Digital Filmmaking from Loyola University New Orleans.
While in film school, Mia immersed herself in the indie film world in Louisiana. A Baton Rouge native, Mia began as a child actress but later transitioned to working behind the camera to bring Southern stories to life.
Every creative journey begins somewhere. My passion for storytelling started at an early age through performance and a deep curiosity about the art of filmmaking. What began as a fascination with stories eventually evolved into a career dedicated to producing meaningful visual experiences.
Over the years, I’ve worked across multiple areas of production, gaining hands-on experience in developing projects from concept to completion. Whether coordinating productions, supporting directors, or leading creative teams, every opportunity has strengthened my understanding of how powerful storytelling can be.Today, I continue to create work that blends creativity with purpose—building productions that are visually engaging, emotionally authentic, and thoughtfully produced. For me, filmmaking isn’t simply about creating content; it’s about creating experiences that stay with audiences long after the screen goes dark.
Behind every project is a purpose.
I founded MIA UPSHAW Productions with a simple mission:
To champion independent storytelling while creating opportunities for emerging creatives.
I believe great stories deserve the chance to be seen regardless of budget, background, or industry connections.
